# Hover: your AI agents, in your notch

> Hover is a free, open-source desktop app (MIT) for Windows, Linux and macOS (the Mac app is new and not notarized yet). Written in Rust, it turns the top centre of your screen into a notch: at rest a slim black island showing your AI coding agents and quotas, and on hover a small 3D office where Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Claude Code and Kiro each work as a bot at a desk, in the folder you chose. You give tasks to the agent CLIs you already have, by typing or by speaking, approve risky steps in the notch, and keep every session encrypted on your own machine. No account, no server, no analytics.

## What it does

At rest, Hover is a slim black island at the top of your screen with your agents and quotas at a glance. Hover it (or press `Alt` + `N`) and it opens into a tiny 3D office where every task is a bot at its own desk, and nothing happens without your say.

## Features

1. **The Agent office.** Every task is a bot at its own desk in a tiny 3D office. See who's reading, editing or running, at a glance.
2. **Ask before acting.** See the exact diff or command first. Deny, Trust or Allow, from the keyboard too.
3. **Voice.** Hold `Ctrl` + `Alt` + `Space`, say the task, let go. Speech becomes text on your own computer (Phonon) or through Groq.
4. **Projects.** Register the folders voice may work in, the other names you call them by, and each folder's own tool access.
5. **AI quotas.** Claude Code, Kiro, Codex and Cursor usage as rings on the notch, re-read every five minutes.
6. **Side by side.** Run up to three agents at once, across tools, each in its own folder.
7. **Rich answers.** Tables, code with colour, diffs with line numbers, command exit codes and flowcharts, drawn safely: agent output can't inject markup.
8. **Honest activity.** The chat shows only the thinking, subagents and changes the agent actually reports.
9. **Reply, queue, pause.** Replies sent during a run wait their turn. Pause stops the current answer, and the next queued reply starts once the agent confirms.
10. **Sessions, kept.** Every chat on the bookshelf. Reply to one and it gets its desk back.
11. **Themes.** Hover light or dark, the system's, or any theme installed in VS Code, Cursor, Kiro or Windsurf.
12. **Completely private.** No account, no server, no analytics. Sessions and API keys are encrypted on your disk.

## How it works

1. **Start a task.** Pick an agent, say what you want, choose the folder.
2. **Approve a change.** See the exact edit or command first. Deny, Trust or Allow.
3. **Read the answer.** Tables, code and flowcharts, right in the chat.
4. **Pick up a past session.** Every session is kept. Reply to carry on.

## Control

Each agent gets its own tool access: Full, Ask first, Ask always or Read only. When one asks, **Trust** lets it do the same again for the rest of the session. Details: https://tryhover.co/docs/access.md

## Agents

Hover runs the agent CLIs you already have, each in the folder you pick, as a hidden process. No terminal ever opens.

On Windows the installer replaces a 2.x copy in place and keeps your data.
